Silvern Gleam

Silvern Gleam awarded the Legion of Merit

3 January 2014

Arabian horses are known to greatly inspire humans, be it in beautiful art work or in dreams beyond their wildest imagination.

Although Silvern Gleam was mostly imported for breeding purposes, the dream they had for this young gentleman grew in leaps and bounds as he was growing up into a magnificent young stallion. Never in their wildest dreams could they have foreseen to what great heights Gleam – as he is fondly referred to by all – would take their breeding program and Jamani Arabians and the Arabian horse in South Africa in general!

Adding Gleam’s illustrious pedigree to the already solid foundation of the Jamani broodmares, just reinforced what was already firmly established in the foundations horses at Jamani. Long before South Africa even saw Gleam, his sons and daughters wrote their sires name into the history books. They were shown in halter, under saddle and in open competitions against all breeds and took the endurance tracks by storm! Both here and abroad Gleam’s progeny have earned their sire a reputation as a highly respected sire of Champions!

But the dream does not revolve around the Champion offspring! From his debut in the show ring Gleam performed very successfully, reaped in the winning rosettes. Even though he had a belated start in the show ring, he more than made up. At the age of 24 this amazing snow white stallion can boast with more than 20 Riding Championships, with over 70 wins and placings. He has earned himself 3 Victor Ludorms, 4 x 1st in the Get of Sire class, 5 Halter wins, 3 Top 5 Supreme Champion Stallion, 1 Senior Champion Stallion and 1 Supreme Champion Stallion. Any competitor will tell you that watching this Old Man extend around the arena after his win – will bring a tear to anyone’s eye. And the cheering still urges him on to display that signature extended trot.

There is no other Arabian stallion in the history of South Africa that can boast with so many Champion offspring – together with earning himself so many Championships. Gleam is highly respected within the Arabian industry, both here and in the rest of the world and amongst the entire horse fraternity in South Africa.

When at school with Natalie Hogg, he was the reason why people came to the stables – to chat to him and see the white Arab stallion – things that dreams are made off. Thus firmly setting his status as Ambassador for the breed – children would adore him, ladies swoon and admire him … and Gleam – he would enjoy all the attention and carrots.

Gleam won Supreme Champion Open Riding Horse General Breed at Horse of the Year. He was the first Arabian stallion to win the Supreme Champion Open Riding Horse General Breed at Autum Gold Cup.

He is most definitely the biggest ambassador for the Arabian horse in South Africa, famous and much loved amongst horse people, both in the Arab world and outside.

Awarding Gleam with the much celebrated WAHO trophy would have been a very fitting way to celebrate this great old gentleman, but since he is not RSA bred, I think it would be very fitting to award him the Legion of Merits that he has earned throughout his life.

The Arab Horse Society of South Africa has awarded Silver Gleam a total of seven Merits.  The calculations can be found here: Silvern Gleam – Legion of Merit.
